Gurukul Grammar School in Guwahati Turns Into Covid Mela, School Closed Indefinitely

It has been alleged that some teachers and staffs of the school were suffering from cough and fever from the last 3-4 days.

Guwahati: At least 30 people which includes teachers and staffs belonging to the Gurukul Grammar School near the Gitamandir area of Guwahati has tested positive for Covid-19 on January 18.

As per reports, it has been alleged that some teachers and staffs of the school were suffering from cough and fever from the last 3-4 days. The classes continued to take place as usual despite their illness.

The District Commissioner was informed by the parents and guardians of the students regarding the incident.

Later, the officials from the district administration along with a team of health officials reached the school and tested all the 144 teachers and staffs.

The district administration ordered to close the school for an indefinite period of time after 30 of them were found to have contracted the virus.

Earlier, the Assam government decided to shut down all physical classes for all standards in the state till January 30 and it came into effect from January 8.

Additionally, all schools up to Class 8 in Kamrup-Metropolitan district and up to Class 5 in all other districts will remain closed from 8 January onwards.

The state government also issued fresh Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in order to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Under the newly revised SOP, night curfew timings have been revised to 10 pm to 6 am. Also, only vaccinated people will be allowed to enter public places like hotel, restaurants, cafe's, malls, multiplexes, government offices, etc.

According to media reports, Assam reported its highest daily Covid cases of 6,982 on 17 January following a surge in infections in four districts.

The state's positivity rate also increased from 8.99 per cent to 10.75 per cent and the recovery rate stood at 95.18 per cent.
