Guwahati: ASTC City Bus Seized After Driver Misbehaves With Passenger, DL Suspended

The incident came to light after the victim filed a complaint regarding the misbehaviour and misconduct of an ASTC bus driver on the Adabari-Basistha route.

GUWAHATI: A driver of an Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) has been detained following a brawl with a passenger on July 15.

The incident came to light after the victim filed a complaint by one Arunabh Chaliha regarding the misbehaviour and misconduct of an ASTC bus driver in the Adabari-Basistha route of Guwahati city on Friday.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Chaliha wrote, "A city bus running under ASTC in Adabari- Basistha Road misbehaving passengers by the driver and conductor. Even challenges Transport Minister & MVI also by using abusive words. Go to MVI and see what can do against us etc. NA pls."

Meanwhile, in less than 24 hours the officials of the city administration sprung into action and detained the bus along with the driving licence of the driver suspended. 

in a tweet, Assam Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya wrote, "The bus has been detained & necessary legal action is being initiated."

Chaliha through Twitter brought the matter to the notice of Transport Minister, Parimal Suklabaidya and Secretary, Transport department, Adil Khan following which a case was registered against the driver under Section182 (2) relating to offences like misbehaviour, using abusive language and driving dangerously.

"In the wake of a complaint, the driver of the bus was asked to report to the DTO enforcement wing. A case was registered under Section182 (2) against the driver for offences relating to conductor licence, misbehaviour or using abusive language and driving dangerously. The vehicle now seized, is kept under custody. The driving license of the driver is also kept for suspension," said Khan.
