Guwahati: ASTC Decreases Number Of Pink Buses To 4

The operational fleet may be increased if the demand were to surge again and it will be done so if needed for the ease of travelling.

Guwahati: The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) has taken a call to bring down the number of Pink Buses to only four from 25 due to low passenger traffic.

In this regard, ASTC has issued a notification, wherein, it said that the pink buses operating in Guwahati have witnessed a drop in the number of passengers during the last few months.

''Therefore, it has been decided to decrease the operation of the buses and only four buses will operate in Guwahati on a daily basis,'' it said.

A new timetable has been issued by the ASTC with regards to the routes on which the buses will operate. The bus service will run on four routes as per the newly revised timetable.

Bus no 1 will operate from Khanapara to Jalukbari, Bus no 2 will run from Jalukbari to Khanapara while Bus no 3 will operate from Bonda/Narengi to Jalukbari and Bus no 4 will run from Jalukbari to Bonda/Narengi.

The notification further said that the operational fleet may be increased if the demand were to surge again and it will be done so if needed for the ease of travelling.

Meanwhile, the 'Pink Bus' was launched under the 'Bhraman Sarathi' scheme and was dedicated to women and senior citizens traveling within the city of Guwahati free of cost.

 Former Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal launched a fleet of 25 buses in 2021.

Earlier, the routes covered by the 25 buses were Khanapara-Jalukbari via Paltan Bazar, Forest Gate-Jalukbari via Chandmari, Basistha Mandir-Jalukbari via Paltan Bazar, Khanapara-Jalukbari via NH/ ISBT and Game Village/ Bhetapara-Jalukbari via Paltan Bazar.
