GUWAHATI: It is often alleged that the smuggling of drugs is often carried out in jails. This came to be true after the suspension of two warders of Guwahati Central Jail who were newly appointed on June 1. According to sources, the two warders of the Guwahati Central Jail were suspended after contraband of ganja, sadha, and bidi was recovered from their possession. The suspended warders have been identified as Raju Thakur from Baksa and Tankeswar Das from Hajo.

According to sources, during the check at the Jail's entrance on Sunday, both of them were caught red-handed with the items that they brought in, concealed in their socks and caps. When security personnel found the ganja and other narcotics, the jail authority checked their bags and barracks and recovered other narcotics. After the incident, the jail authority informed the Inspector General (IG) of Prison, who suspended the two warders.
