GUWAHATI: On Wednesday, Abhijit Bose, a journalist, was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the Guwahati child abuse case. Abhijit is the brother of Utpala Bose, the main accused in the child abuse case, who was detained under Section 120 (B), which deals with protecting accused persons.
Meanwhile, another prime accused, Dr. Waliul Islam, was brought before the court after serving his five-day police detention. Sangeeta Datta, on the other hand, was escorted from Pan Bazaar police station to the forensic department of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a health check-up.
However, Abhijit Bose intends to file a defamation lawsuit against the police, claiming that he was only summoned for normal interrogation but was handcuffed.
It should be mentioned that Utpala Bose, the personal assistant of the principal accused Dr Sangeeta Datta, was apprehended on Friday after fleeing after the doctor couple's arrest, according to police.
Utpala is suspected of 'arranging' the adoption of the children to Dr. Sangeeta Datta and Walliul Islam.
According to reports, Utpala Bose met Dr. Sangeeta Datta in 2019 while working at an organization called 'Cordlife,' which conserved the umbilical cords of newborn babies.
The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) named child rights campaigner Miguel Das Queah as a Support Person for the victims in the case on Tuesday.
Furthermore, at least 32 CCTV footage were discovered at the doctor couple's home in connection with the horrible crime, and authorities have thoroughly examined each image.
Furthermore, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the police to submit the chargesheet within 45 days.
On Thursday, police apprehended a housemaid for the accused doctor couple in a child abuse case after local police retrieved CCTV evidence from the apartment.
Guwahati commissioner of police Diganta Barah stated that “The minor girl child was kept captive at the fourth floor of Roma Enclave, the residence of the doctor couple. The 3-year-old baby girl bore injury and burnt marks on her private parts and bruises on many parts of her body.
