GUWAHATI: The Guwahati City Committee of the VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) felicitated former AXX’s (Axam Xahitya Xabha) vice president and litterateur Kanak Chandra Sarma on his 84th birth anniversary at his Kahilipara residence in Guwahati recently.
In a release issued to the press, VHP’s Guwahati City Committee president Shanti Kumar Sinha said that VHP’s adviser Narayan Goswami and other executive members of the committee were present at the felicitation programme.
Born to Pundit Sharat Chandra Sarma and Bedabati Devi on December 2, 1936 in Nalbari, Kanak Chandra Sarma had his graduation from Cotton College, MA in English from Gauhati University and Diploma in Journalism from Kolkata University. Starting his professional career as an ACS (Assam Civil Service) officer in 1962, he retired as the deputy commissioner of Dhubri district in 1996. Devoted to the Assamese literature from his student days, Kanak Chandra Sarma has to his credit over 20 books, besides over 30 collections edited by him. Apart from that, he has published a number of research papers of international repute.
