Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a specially-abled child was reportedly assaulted by a cop in the Bharalumuk area in Guwahati city of Assam amid the ongoing lockdown.

The child's father, a certain Palash Chaliha, uploaded a video on Face can clearly be seen crying helplessly in pain and misery. "I had taken my son Bhrigu with me after 6 pm (curfew time) to purchase medicines him as his medicine stock had run out, and he is a special child. Without asking anything, police swung a cane at him from behind. Look at his condition!", Chaliha said in the video.

Chaliha said that he had stopped his two-wheeler near the cops, but the police swung their weapon at him without waiting for an explanation. "They said in Hindi that they would put us both in the lockup. The police officer did not understand the Assamese language. I was explaining in the Assamese tongue, but they did not understand. It is a strange irony that police official posted in Assam would not understand the native tongue", Chaliha further alleged.

Chaliha's video has now gone viral and is being widely circulated on social media platforms. As a consequence, it has also reached the top brass of the Assam Police.

ADGP Law and Order GP Singh earlier today took to Twitter to assure that the accused officers shall be reprimanded. "Reference Facebook post of Sri Palash Chaliha regarding policeman beating up Sri Chaliha's child, who also happens to be a special child, please rest assured action would be taken against the erring policeman. No compromise on such issues", Singh wrote in a tweet wherein he tagged the accounts of both the Assam Police and Guwahati Police.
