Guwahati: Dharapur Bus Stand Opens for Service

A total of 330 busses from different routes to the Dharapur Bus stand.

GUWAHATI: In a bid to control the traffic situation in the state and pay heed to the long-time demand of a large number of Guwahatians, the bus stand at Dharapur in the city has been made operational from December 27, Tuesday with the service of a total of 330 city busses.

The residents of Guwahati are losing a lot of valuable time due to traffic jams for a long time and the problem has grown manifold after the construction of several flyovers commenced. Several citizens had filled out applications to start city bus services to Dharapur from several locations in the city. And the local administration has finally decided to listen to these pleas solving this long-time problem of the residents of Dharapur as well as its neighbouring regions.

In accordance with that, the Kamrup Metropolitan Commissioner, District Transport Officer and the Metro Transport Association Guwahati (MTAG) jointly inaugurated the Dharapur bus stand in the city on Tuesday. Apart from the District Transport Officer and representatives of MTAG, several prominent local people were also present for the inaugural event.

7 city buses from Chandrapur via route number 35 to Dharapur, 127 buses from Bashista Mandir via AT Road following route number 36 to Dharapur, 23 buses from Bashista Mandir via Chandmari following route number 37 to Dharapur, 103 buses from Narengi to Dharapur following route number 38, 61 busses from Panjabari via Chandmari to Dharapur following route number 39 and 9 busses from Bonda Colony to Dharapur via route number 46. Thus bringing a total of 330 busses from different routes to the Dharapur Bus stand.

It was also announced that if these city busses turn halfway, that is before reaching the Dharapur bus stand, the owners of the violating vehicles will be levied with a fine of Rs 10000 and the driver as well as the handyman of the vehicle will lose their licenses for a duration of three months.
