Guwahati: Fresh Landslides Reported in Basistha and Mathgharia

Earlier, two minor siblings were buried alive after landslides hit Assam in the second wave of floods in the Goalpara district of Assam.

GUWAHATI: Amid incessant rainfall, Fresh landslides were reported from various parts of the city on Friday.

As per reports, two incidents of landslides were reported in Guwahati's Basistha and Mathgharia.

In the Baikunthapur area in Basistha, the guard wall of a residence was destroyed by a landslide.

According to the sources, the resident belonged to a lady identified as Kalpana Kumari Deka. However, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

Another incident took place at Mathgharia in which a mudslide damaged a house, with no injuries reported.

Earlier, two minor siblings were buried alive after landslides hit Assam in the second wave of floods in the Goalpara district of Assam.

The incident occurred in Azad Nagar of Goalpara district when Hussain Ali and Asma Khatun, children of Asir Uddin Sikdar, got buried in the debris of the landslide.

According to reports, a portion of the land collapsed due to the heavy rains, and the two children died on the spot.

Soon after the incident, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) and police arrived at the incident spot and retrieved the bodies of the two deceased children.

The body of the deceased duo has been taken for post-mortem to the Goalpara Civil Hospital.
