Guwahati: GMCH Employee Caught Red-Handed For Taking Bribe To Issue Death Certificate

The fourth-grade employee identified as Gautam Das has been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in exchange for a death certificate.

GUWAHATI: A Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) employee was arrested on Tuesday for taking a bribe to issue a death certificate, an official statement said.

As per reports, a complaint was received against a fourth-grade employee of GMCH that he had demanded a bribe for issuing a death certificate.

Speaking to the media, Superintendent of GMCH, Abhijit Sharma said that the fourth-grade employee identified as Gautam Das has been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in exchange for a death certificate.

The accused is an employee of the forensic department of the medical college.

Notably, in exchange for the posthumous certificate, Gautam Das took money from a person for which the amount was paid via GOOGLE PAY.

Further, Abhijit Sharma, superintendent of the medical college, filed the complaint after informing the GMCH authorities about the incident.

On the basis of the statement, Bhangagarh police arrested the accused employee.

Earlier, an FIR was lodged against the husband of a Gaon Panchayat member in the Dhubri district by the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Gauripur Development Block, at the direction of Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Ambamuthan MP.

According to the FIR, Adul Rofique, husband of Dharmasala Gaon Panchayat Part V member, Shahanaj Begum, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a beneficiary against the sanctioning house under PMAY, and the complainant lodged a complaint through WhatsApp to the Deputy Commissioner, who recently in a press meet had given the WhatsApp number so that anyone could lodge a complaint if bribe was demanded by any official or individual from any beneficiary for a sanctioning house under PMAY.
