GUWAHATI: The woes of the water supply project are far from coming to an end anytime soon as yet another incident of massive water leakage taking place on Tuesday. The incident took place in the Hatigarh Chariali of the city and triggered massive traffic problems in the locality for quite some time.
Tuesday’s incident of leakage from the water supply pipes was one more among the numerous similar incidents that have taken place in the city in recent times. The leakage led to the dumping of huge amounts of water at high speed onto the busy road next to the pipe. Although a few four-wheelers decided to continue with their windows rolled up, it was impossible to cross the locality. This continued for almost an hour before the experts and technicians could stop the leak and allow the movement of the vehicles as usual.
The water supply project in the city has been a major concern for a large number of localities in the State. Firstly, a large number of localities of the city are still to get access to the water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission and secondly, those areas which have access to water supply have a constant fear of any mishap after the Kharghuli incident, wherein one person lost her life and property worth lakhs of rupees was damaged because of faulty piping.
