Assam: Senior Legal Metrology Official Caught Red-Handed in Guwahati While Accepting Bribe

A team of the State Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption caught Assam Legal Metrology Service (ALMS) controller Shashindra Nath Baishya while taking a bribe of Rs 25,000.

Guwahati: A team of the State Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption caught Assam Legal Metrology Service (ALMS) controller Shashindra Nath Baishya while taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 today.

According to the police, the Directorate received a complaint that ALMS Controller Shashindra Nath Baishya had demanded Rs 25,000 as a bribe for issuing a license to open a shop for selling the weights and measures equipment.

The applicant, who turned complainant, approached this Directorate for necessary legal action against the public servant.

Accordingly, the Directorate laid a trap today in the office of the Controller of Legal Metrology, Assam, RK Mission Road, Ulubari, Guwahati. The team caught Shashindra Nath Baishya red-handed at about 4:40 in his office chamber after he accepted the bribe amounting to Rs 20,000y from the complainant. The team recovered the bribe amount from the possession of the accused public servant in the presence of independent witnesses. The team apprehended the public servant, besides registering a case in ACB Police Station against Shashindra Nath Baishya.
