Guwahati: Major Accident on Nilachal Flyover, One Dead

The registration number of the truck which committed the accident was mentioned to be AS 01 BC 9941.

GUWAHATI: A major traffic accident took place on the newly inaugurated Nilachal Flyover on the morning of Saturday leading to the death of one, injury of several people and damaging several two-wheelers.

According to locals, the accident took place at the landing of the new Nilachal Floyover in the Kamakhya Gate locality of the city. The unexpected development took place when a truck ran over several two-wheelers. All the vehicles were moving from Maligaon side towards Bharalumukh.

The local public rescued the injured people and ensured that they were shifted to medical facilities to ensure proper medical care. However, the truck was able to escape from the location after committing the crime. The incident led to a traffic pileup as the lane was temporarily closed to traffic.

The truck driver was later apprehended by the Bharalumukh Police who also seized the vehicle as it tried to flee. The registration number of the truck was mentioned to be AS 01 BC 9941.

Meanwhile, the local people have raised questions as to how the truck managed to run over so many vehicles and why it tried to escape after committing the accident and running over four two-wheelers.

Previously, a severe road accident took place in Guwahati's Ganeshguri area, resulting in serious injuries to a motorcyclist and four individuals travelling in a vehicle. As per reports, the mishap occurred when the occupants of a vehicle bearing Meghalaya-registered number plate were driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding in the streets of Ganeshguri. At one point, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, leading to a collision with a motorcycle and ultimately crashing into a nearby footbridge.

All five individuals involved in the accident, including the motorcyclist and the occupants of the 'i20' vehicle, suffered grave injuries. Later on, reportedly, the occupants of the vehicle were identified as youths from Meghalaya. Right after the collision, bystanders came to the rescue, extracting the injured victims from the wreckage. Subsequently, all five injured individuals were swiftly transported to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) to receive necessary medical treatment.
