GUWAHATI: An eviction drive was carried out today on 30th September 2021 by a team of Enforcement Branch led by, Additional Commissioner and Joint Commissioner, Guwahati Municipal Corporation against encroachers illegally encroaching footpaths, pavements and roadside areas in unhygienic conditions.

The eviction drive was carried out from Bharalumukh via Lokhra to Khanapara area of Guwahati. It was seen that a large number of people are running their business of selling balloons, plastic bath tubs and various other toy items around roadside areas, footpaths and pavements in unhygienic conditions. This was also causing traffic congestions in the city.

Hence, this eviction drive was carried out by Guwahati Municipal Corporation and items were seized in the process.

Guwahati Municipal Corporation plans to carry out similar evictions in upcoming days.

An eviction drive was conducted today on 19-08-2021 by the team of Enforcement Branch, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) in coordination with Assam Police at S.S. Road, stretching from Goenka point near Sikh Temple to MG Road near LIC Office- as this has been designated as 'No Vending Zone' under the Street Vendors Act 2014. Prior mic announcements were made, but as there was no response from the encroachers, an eviction drive was conducted.

GMC has arranged alternative accommodation for bonafide members of S.S. Road Hawkers Association at the Mezzanine Floor of Multistoried Building of the GMC at Fancy Bazar. Shifting the business from the S.S. Road to MezzanineFloor of the GMC building at Fancy Bazar will greatly reduce the traffic congestion in that area and serve the larger public interest.
