Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) Wards to be Increased from 31 to 60

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) will increase the number of wards from 31 to 60. The corporation has also prepared a draft list of the wards.

Meanwhile, the citizens can raise objections on the draft list and the last date for raising the objections is January 19.

In a notification, it reads, "This is for the general information of the Citizens of Guwahati Municipal area that the Guwahati Municipal Corporation has prepared a draft Delimitation of wards dividing the City into 60 nos. of Wands from the existing 31 numbers. The draft Delimitation of Wards together with boundaries and Map of the proposed wards is published as on 07/01/2022 and have been kept for information of the public."

"Anyone intending to lodge any claim or objection to the proposed draft can do so by submitting written objection addressing to the Office of the undersigned, within 19h January 2022/This is as per Order of Govt. communicated vide letter No. GDD.235/2019/Pt-v/191, dated 5h January 2022," the notification adds.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the election of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation and the municipal bodies will be postponed by one month if the COVID-19 situation doesn't improve in the state.
