GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has decided to take a very strict stance on improper garbage disposal in the city and asked the citizens not to throw garbage in areas other than the designated areas. The administration has mentioned that strict action will be taken against individuals as well as organizations who throw garbage on the sides of the roads. They have also mentioned that a campaign will be undertaken to detect and punish violators in the 48 model wards. The GMC has already sealed a business establishment for dumping garbage on the streets. Singh Store in Harijan Colony of Last Gate also had their licence revoked by GMC for the same reason.
Minister Ashok Singhal also urged the residents of Guwahati to cooperate in keeping the city clean, mentioning that a large number of people are still throwing garbage on the roads. Directing officials to take measures towards the installation of CCTV cameras in sensitive areas, he requested the citizens to be cleanliness guardians in their respective wards.
