GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipality Corporation (GMC) is mulling the idea of the construction of a state-of-the-art convention hall at Adabari. This piece of infrastructure is planned to be constructed alongside the development of the Adabari Market in a mall-like model.

Senior officials with the local urban body mentioned that the organisation is already looking at ideas to redevelop the Adabari Market along with the rest of the markets in Guwahati. Although still in the ideation phase and subject to the availability of necessary funds for its construction, the GMC aims to develop the market in a mall-like format, allocating shops inside the complex to sellers.

Apart from these stalls, the project will also have a convention centre with a capacity of about 5000 people in the audience. It was mentioned that the budget of such a project might go to around Rs 1 crore, and the implementation will be subject to the approval of this amount. It remains, however, to see if the GMC can actually develop this market alongside the development of all the other proposed markets in the city.
