Guwahati Planetarium to have advanced multi-activity centre

Guwahati Planetarium, which has completed its 25 years of existence, is going to have a state-of-the-art multi-activity centre in its premises with several scientific facilities.

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Planetarium, which has completed its 25 years of existence, is going to have a state-of-the-art multi-activity centre in its premises with several scientific facilities. The foundation stone of this new annex will be laid by State Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister of Science and Technology Keshab Mahanta at 11.00 am on November 22. This new facility, with projected cost of Rs.12.42 crore will have a 5-D theatre, Virtual Reality Lab, Tinkering Lab, auditorium with all modern facilities, exhibition corners, etc. so that science loving people, particularly students, can spend some creative time, apart from watching planetarium shows. The foundation stone will be laid on the occasion of closing ceremony of the silver jubilee celebrations of Guwahati Planetarium, where two new facilities will also be inaugurated by the two Ministers. These are - a Virtual Reality Zone (VR Zone) and the other, an Astronomical Gallery. While the VR Zone has been set up in collaboration with the Design Department of IIT Guwahati, the Astronomical Gallery has been designed and developed by the Creative Museum Designers, Kolkata. The VR Zone will enable the viewers to immerse themselves in a real feel of the cosmic world and other shows. The astronomical gallery will help the visitors learn about the universe, development of astronomy and some hands-on learning facilities for the children.

This may be mentioned that Guwahati Planetarium has been celebrating its Silver Jubilee Celebrations since August 17, 2019 through various activities, A souvenir published on the occasion will also be released during the event on November 22, stated a release by Kimnei Changsan, Director, Guwahati Planetarium.
