Guwahati: Police Bust Inter-State Vehicle Theft Racket

Talukdar who was nabbed from Guwahati's Geetanagar area allegedly used to bring vehicles on lease and sold them illegally into other states.

Guwahati: The Guwahati Police on Tuesday busted an interstate car theft racket and recovered six vehicles from Assam and Manipur.

As per reports, the police have managed to apprehend the prime accused named Bikash Talukdar during the operation.

Talukdar who was nabbed from Guwahati's Geetanagar area allegedly used to bring vehicles on lease and sold them illegally into other states.

The vehicles recovered by the police include three TATA DI Pickup vans which are from Manipur while a Bolero pickup and another TATA vehicle were also recovered.

Reports also claimed that the two other accused identified as Gaurav Singh and Horen Kalita involved in the crime are on the run presently.

Notably, earlier this month, the city police busted a gang of car lifters in the Geetanagar area and also arrested two car lifters.

Acting on the information received from them, the police also nabbed four more car lifters.

Reportedly, the gang was involved in selling the stolen vehicles to Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and other northern states.
