Guwahati: The Guwahati Police on Wednesday detained the Assam Congress Committee leader Bhupen Bora and others who were protesting against the summon issued by Enforcement Directorate to party leader Rahul Gandhi.

Notably, Congress has been protesting against Rahul Gandhi's arrest as well and has been protesting against the ED's questioning of Rahul Gandhi. It's the third day of their protest today.

Reportedly, the protest turned violent as clashes were reported between the police and the protesters following which a police officer got injured.

The police have put up barricades to stop the protesters from protesting and reportedly when the protestors tried to breach the barricades, the police nabbed them.

Reports also claimed that female protesters are been badly treated by the police during the protest. Meanwhile, the Congress leader among others has been detained by the police from Rajiv Bhawan.

The protestors were supposed to go to the ED office in Chandmari but police stopped them from doing so.

On Monday too, the protesters were arrested when they were protesting against Rahul Gandhi's arrest by the ED and Bhupen Bora alleged that the questioning was done in order to avoid Nupur Sharma's controversial remark.

"In the same allegation brought by ED, Rahul Gandhi got a clean chit way back in 2015. Since the Nupur Sharma case has tarnished the image of the Prime Minister globally, the ED is being used to divert attention,'' he had said.

The protesters were protesting in solidarity against Rahul Gandhi's questioning of ED as well as taking note of the flash floods in the flood-affected areas. Leaders like Rakibul Hussain, MLA Nurul Hooda, MP Abdul Khaleque, and several other wings supported the protest.
