Guwahati: Police Nab Two Persons For Stealing Pan Masala Laden Truck

The accused later asked the driver to leave the truck and get into another vehicle telling the driver that they were taking him to the office for inspection.

Guwahati: The Guwahati Police apprehended two persons for allegedly stealing a truck carrying pan masala from Mother Teresa Road here on Thursday.

As per reports, the city police also detained one person in connection with the theft case who along other two arrested persons acted as Sales taxes officials and stopped the truck laden with pan masala on August 22 in the Patharquary area of Guwahati.

The accused later asked the driver to leave the truck and get into another vehicle telling the driver that they were taking him to the office for inspection.

Later, the management of AVG Logistics to which the trucks belong lodged a complaint with the noonmati police station following which police swung into action and recovered the trucks apart from arresting the two accused and detaining one person.

The two arrested persons were identified as Dilip Chaudhary and Pranav Das while another person who was detained was identified as Sagar Sarkar.

''CGPD of Noonmati PS cracked a big case of the theft of a truck loaded with 337 cartons Pan Masala when it arrested Pranab Das of Salbari & Dilip Choudhary of Soonsali along with 3 trucks, in which the stolen goods were hidden, from Mother Teresa Road,'' Guwahati Police tweeted.

Reportedly, police seized three more trucks numbered AS01 BC 8286, AS01 H 9597, and AS01 DC 9335 while trying to transfer the tobacco items worth lakhs of rupees.

In this regard, the Noonmati Police has registered a case (370/22) under Section 392 of the Indian Penal Code.
