Guwahati Police nabs two for alleged involvement in hawala transactions

GUWAHATI: In a major success, the Guwahati Police have unearthed a hawala racket. In this connection, two individuals were arrested with an amount over Rs 1.69 crore from their possession in the Athgaon area on Wednesday. According to sources, it has been suspected that the seized amount is part of the hawala transactions that the two have been carrying out.

According to sources, a team of Bharalamukh police station conducted a search operation at the rented house of Md. Jamir Uddin of MS Road in the Athgaon area. After the search operation, the team found that a huge cash amount of Indian rupees was found kept in two bags in the possession of the two accused, identified as Devkaran Sen (27) and Manoj Kumar (47) both hailing from Rajasthan. When being interrogated, they were both unable to reply regarding the source of the huge amount.

According to sources, the Income Tax Department was informed, and the officials, after counting the recovered money, found the amount to be Rs 1,69,70,000.

The IT team has been carrying out further investigation about the source of the huge amount.
