GUWAHATI,: Carrying on with the Anjan Nath murder incident, Guwahati Police on Wednesday were able to locate and recover the second mobile phone belonging to the murder accused, Gitashree Sinha, from the Bahini River in Guwahati.
A police team undertook a search operation to find the mobile phone used by Gitashree Sinha to contact the shooter, Saurav Goenka, provide them with the locations of the victim, and coordinate the whole murder. The police team took Gitashree Sinha's younger sister, Neha Sinha, who is also a co-accused of the incident, and dumped this phone into the water body in an attempt to hide the evidence. On interrogation, she mentioned that she had dumped her sister's mobile phone near the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden. On successful recovery of the mobile phone, the police team sent it for inspection.
Previously, on Tuesday, Guwahati Police were able to recover the pistol used by Saurav Goenka to shoot Anjan Nath dead from the Bharalu River in the city. A team from the Basistha Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) along with personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) mounted an operation to recover the pistol. The police team also found the magazine used by the shooters along with the pistol during this operation.
Saurav Goenka, with the help of Gitashree Sinha, shot dead Anjan Nath near the Ganesh Mandir in Khanapara in a well-planned plot. The police arrested seven people, including the parents and sister of Gitashree Sinha and two other accomplices, for committing and collaborating in this murder. The country-made pistol used by Saurav Goenka to shoot Anjan Nath from point blank range and recovered today was smuggled to Guwahati from Bihar for this murder. The murder was a result of love and deceit, as Gitashree Sinha, who was the lover of the victim, Anjan Nath, and her family members plotted to murder him in cold blood. The shooter, Saurav Goenka, was also romantically involved with Gitashree Sinha and decided to carry out the murder himself.
