GUWAHATI: The Guwahati police on Sunday summoned Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Srinivas Bhadravathi Venkata and asked him to appear at Dispur police station on May 2 in connection with a case filed by Angkita Dutta.

In a notice sent to Srinivas BV, East Guwahati ADCP Moitrayee Deka asked him to appear before her at Dispur Police Station in Guwahati on May 2 at 11:00 a.m.

Sharing a copy of the notice on Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reacted to it on Sunday. On Twitter, he wrote, "The Assam Police is acting in accordance with the law. They are currently investigating a case filed by a female Congress worker against the accused person under Section 354 of the IPC. It is unfair to blame me for the lack of a safe environment with the Congress Party for female workers. Please advise the accused to cooperate with the legal process."

The notice directed the Youth Congress national president that he will not commit any offence in the future, he will not tamper with the evidence of the case, and he will not make any threat, inducement, or promise to any person acquainted with the facts of the case so as to dissuade him or her from disclosing such facts to the court or to the police officer. He will have to appear before the court as and when required or directed, and he will also join the investigation of the case as and when required and cooperate. He will have to disclose all the facts without concealing any part relevant for the purpose of the investigation. He will have to produce relevant documents and be cooperative. He is not allowed to destroy any evidence relevant to the investigation.

"Failure to attend or comply with the terms of this notice can render you liable for arrest under sections 41A (3) and (4) of the CrPC," the notice read.

Meanwhile, the police team that left for Karnataka was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Moitrayee Deka, who is also the investigating officer in the case.
