GUWAHATI: With the objective to create awareness among the masses regarding the protection of Rhino, which constitutes one of the endangered species of the world, Guwahati Refinery (GR) observed World Rhino Day on Thursday at the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.
A total of 134 forest guards of the sanctuary were felicitated by Guwahati Refinery who have been instrumental in protecting the rhinos, stated a press release. The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is currently home to 107 world-famous one-horned Indian rhinoceros, which is the highest in the world, along with maintaining a record of zero cases of poaching since 2014.
In the programme, emphasis was laid on adopting various strategic and up-to-date measures for further bolstering the cause of protection of the rhinos, while appreciating the role of the forest guards and the local residents in the protection of the endangered species.
It is to be mentioned that Indian Oil Corporation Limited launched its official brand mascot 'IndianOil Rhino' on September 1 last year during the 62nd IndianOil Day celebrations and, as such, it has been espousing the cause of the great Indian rhino and create awareness about this majestic dweller of Indian forests through its various strategic moves.
The programme was attended by Ms Joyshree Naiding, IFS, DFO, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, Nayanjyoti Das, Range Officer, Anita Srivastava, Chief General Manager (Corporate Communications, CSR & Hindi), Refinery Headquarter, New Delhi, PK Basumatary, Chief General Manager (Technical), Guwahati Refinery, H Bhattacharyya, Chief General Manager (HR) and other officials.
