GUWAHATI: Guwahati Refinery observed World Water Day on Tuesday in a befitting way to create awareness on the gradual depleting situation of ground water level, as well as to encourage all to contribute for the cause of water conservation, stated a press release.

In the programme organized at the L&D centre, the chief guest, Dr Arup Kumar Mishra, Chairman, Pollution Control Board of Assam, delivered an insightful talk on how the gradual depletion of ground water level has been a cause of concern for entire mankind, as well as for a balanced eco system. He further stressed on how judicious and proper use of different types of water in different work spheres can help in preserving as well as maintaining a proper balance of water level on earth. While urging the gathered audience - comprising employees, apprentices, contractual workers, ladies as well as school students - to think of the environment as a totality and to act consciously so as to not affect the interconnection among its varied components like air, water and soil, Dr Mishra further cited examples of how a disruption in the interconnection among the elements can pose a threat to all living forms. He further appreciated Guwahati Refinery for its various water conservation measures and encouraged all to adopt it at individual level. Addressing the audience, SP Singh, ED & RH, appreciated the cooperation received from all fronts in the awareness campaign on water conservation undertaken by Guwahati Refinery and laid emphasis on how every small effort by each individual can contribute towards the cause.

In the programme, a presentation was also made on the various water conservation measures and water reduction schemes implemented by Guwahati Refinery. It may be mentioned that Guwahati Refinery took up the cause of creating an awareness campaign on water saving since October, 2021 on the theme 'Conserve Water for Future'. As part of the awareness campaign, various measures were taken up involving all stakeholders, including school students, so as to generate adequate awareness among the people on the importance of water and how conscious and timely efforts from all fronts can contribute towards conserving water for future.

As part of the awareness campaign, many competitions like water-leak detection, slogan competition, art and quiz competition, workshop on water conservation by experts etc., were carried out to motivate and to mobilize the people for the cause of water conservation.
