GUWAHATI: Cracking the whip on covid rule violators, the Guwahati traffic police registered 435 non-FIRs on the first day of new restrictions on Thursday. As per data provided by the city traffic police, 157 cases of fines were detected on Thursday, an amount of Rs 2.2 lakh in fines were realised from violators and 81 vehicles were detained. Odd-even rules and ban on pillion riding had came into force from Thursday as part of new restriction and containment measures imposed in view of the surge in covid cases in the state.

From May 4 after partial lockdown was imposed in the state and upto May 13, the Guwahati traffic police has detected 488 cases of fines, 1,230 non-FIRs were registered, 145 vehicles have been detained and fines amounting to Rs 5,46,000 has been imposed.

As per the fresh set of guidelines, pillion riding has been totally prohibited in two wheelers, except with women and children. In Kamrup (Metro) area, all

vehicles other than government vehicles have allowed to ply in accordance with the odd-even formula. However, there has been a total ban on the movement of individuals from 2pm to 5am.
