Guwahati Traffic Police step up legal action against violators

Guwahati Traffic Police have gone strict with traffic rule violators.

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Traffic Police have gone strict with traffic rule violators. The traffic police launched renewed drive between August 1 to August 15, 2021 to reduce traffic rule violations in Kamrup (metro) district and to take legal action against violators.

The Guwahati Traffic Police collected an amount of Rs 15,51,900 as fine on the spot during this period. This drive also saw a vigorous use of the totally transparent e-challan system that is now in place in Guwahati. The total number of cases of traffic violation detected in the 15-day period was 7,708. Out of this, 1,329 e-challans totalling to a fine amount of Rs 28,97,500 were forwarded to the court. Total 4,634 non-FIR cases have been forwarded to the court where the fine amount will be decided. A total of 1,036 cases were related to parking violations. Out of these, 508 challans were issued manually, while 528 were registered as e-challans. The Guwahati Traffic Police have urged people to follow traffic rules.
