Guwahati Traffic Police to be strict during Durga Puja festival

DTO appeals to citizens to be cautious

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Traffic Police has announced that they will be taking strict action during the Durga Puja festival. They have mentioned that proper safety measures are a must for all drivers. Drivers and passengers of two-wheelers must wear helmets, and those driving four-wheelers must have their seat belts on. Also, there is a complete ban on drinking and driving in the city. They have also mentioned that triple loading will not be tolerated for two-wheelers.

Those breaking the rules and regulations will face strict action. These include fines up to Rs 10,000 and cancellation of the driving licence, apart from other possible punishments based on the laws being broken.

Assistant Commissioner of Transport Gautam Das also called on the citizens to exercise caution and not break any laws to ensure the safety of all pedestrians and drivers on the roads. He added that the excise department, transport department, police department, and district administration will be working in tandem to ensure that no one breaks the laws, while reminding them that if anyone is caught engaging in drunken driving, it will lead to his or her immediate arrest.
