Guwahati: Heavy downpour lashing the city since early morning on Friday although gave the city dwellers a respite from the scorching heat, but at the same time, it has brought a nightmare with a wave of flash flood disturbing the daily routine for all. Guwahati city, in most of its parts, is seen drowning under flash flood with knee-deep water making it difficult for the commuters.
Important locations of the city, such as the GS road, Nabin Nagar, Tarun Nagar, Chandmari Colony, R.G. Baruah road could be seen under water since morning. With roads being waterlogged and creating unnecessarily hectic traffic, reaching office on time became more like a distant dream for the office goers of the city.
Before this, Thursday recorded to be the highest temperature day of the season in Guwahati with the mercury soaring as high as 36 degree Celsius. Other northeastern cities like Itanagar and Agartala too were not lagging behind with an equally high temperature of 35 degree celsius. Thus, the scorching heat and sunny day that went by on Thursday was no more there on Friday with the rain cooling down the city since the morning.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predictions are that the isolated areas of the region have chances of plunging under heavy rainfall during the next 96 hours. The weather forecast report was issued by the IMD on Thursday according to which thunderstorm with lightning too can be expected in some areas of the northeastern states Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Thus, going with the IMD forecasts, this might be just the beginning and more rains are to follow in the coming days which might create more panic among the people across the state. It is thus, high time for all to follow the flood precautions and be ready to keep calm and tackle the disaster wisely.
