Guwahati: Unique Library Themed Puja Pandal at Chatribari

GUWAHATI: The festive season has returned and preparations in Guwahati are no less than in any other place.

Durga Puja has started, today being 'Shasti' and devotees are making their way to the neighbourhood puja panda to seek the blessings of Maa Durga.

The citizens are gearing up for pandal hopping, even as pandals across the city are seen featuring unique themes and mesmerizing decorations.

The Chatribari Sarbajanin Debo Pujasthan Samiti in the Chatribari area of Guwahati has built its Durga Puja pandal with the theme of a 'library'.

With the portrayal of this theme, the Puja committee wants to encourage people to read and be aware of the great literature on offer.

This Durga Puja pandal with a library motif is featuring great personalities and literature of Assamese literature.

President of Chatribari Sarbajanin Debo Pujasthan Samiti, SK Paul, said that "We have taken the library theme to showcase the power of knowledge. Our main aim is to build this year's Puja pandal like a library to encourage our new generation to read books."

"We have put up at least 5,000 books written by renowned writers on the shelves. We are also trying to introduce the renowned Assamese writers to our new generation. We have tried to show a brief introduction of the renowned writers in the pandal," added the president of the Samiti.

The Chatribari Sarbajanin Debo Pujasthan Samiti has used more than 18,000 colourful pens in building the idols of Goddess Durga.

Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsava or Sharodotsava, is a yearly puja festival, which honours the Hindu goddess Durga and commemorates her victory over the demon, Mahishasur.

Durga Puja is one of the biggest festivals in India. This year Maha Shashti falls on October 1, while Vijaya Dashami falls on October 5.

Durga Puja signifies much more than just goes religion. It is the celebration of compassion, brotherhood, humanity, art and culture. From the intricate rhythms of the puja drums and new clothes to delicious food, a period of merriness, joy and devotion prevails.
