Guwahati: Heavy showers on Wednesday disrupted normal life across the city as commuters, especially office-goers stuck in knee-high water.

As per reports, the areas like Geetanagar, Hatigaon, Chandmari, Zoo road, and several other areas witnessed water-logging disrupting normal vehicle movement and also causing traffic jams.

However, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy showers are likely to continue in the state in the coming days.

IMD has predicted scattered rainfall over Northeast India covering Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, and Nagaland for the forthcoming five days at a stretch and perhaps beyond.

Even though very little improvement is seen in the flood-causing disaster in Assam, there will still be scattered showers wetting the state thoroughly for a constant period this week.

Recently, Assam, as well as Meghalaya, have recorded large rainfall comprising 737.9 mm and 1445.1 mm respectively. While Sikkim and Manipur have also registered extensive showers containing 788.7 mm and 407.2 mm in particular.

Simultaneously, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh received normal rainfall whereas Tripura and Mizoram witnessed a deficit in rainfall.

Meanwhile, the count has risen to 26 in Assam so far due to the prevailing flood accompanied by landslides, following one more individual death that occurred in the Cachar district in the last 24 hours.
