Guwahati: Vegetarians of Assam's Guwahati city can breathe a sigh of relief as a new COVID Care Centre has been set up that serves purely vegetarian food. This new facility for the patients has been set up at the Hotel Rituraj, a 2-star hotel situated in the very heart of the city.

Dr Rathindra Bhuyan, the Director of Health Services of Assam yesterday inaugurated this new COVID Care Centre amid much fanfare. Now, the asymptomatic COVID patients shall be able to enjoy their preferred food while recuperating from the disease.

The announcement was made by the official Twitter handle of "Assam COVID Care Centers. Some pictures of the inauguration and the subsequent puja flagging off operations at the centre were posted from the handle along with the caption, "Vegetarian, Asymptomatic Corona patients of Assam today got a relief when Dr Rathindra Bhuyan, Director Health Services Govt of Assam inaugurated a pure vegetarian Covid Care Centre."

The COVID-19 has been infecting scores of people across Assam on a daily basis and young and old, rich and poor, all have fallen into the grasp of the dreaded respiratory illness. There is no evidence to suggest that a particular diet or any other given quality makes one less likely to get an infection. Thus, it makes perfect sense for Guwahati to have a 'shuddh shakahari' COVID Care Centre.

It needs mention here that Assam registered 875 new COVID19 positive cases on Sunday, taking the total to 1,69,985 while the death toll increased to 655 after the death of 17 more patients.

A total of 1,670 more patients were yesterday discharged from various hospitals or Covid care facilities across Assam after their recovery. Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Sunday night said the new cases were detected out of 1,5347 tests.

Of the new cases detected on Sunday, Kamrup Metro has reported 214 new cases and Jorhat has reported 159 cases.
