Hatigaon Police Station detenu tests COVID positive

GUWAHATI: Tension prevailed at the Hatigaon Police Station after a person who was detained at the station earlier this week, was tested COVID-19 positive on Saturday.

According to reports, a person named Gagan Rajbongshi was arrested by the Hatigaon Police on June 9 over theft charges. The accused had allegedly committed the crime on June 5 at bylane number 4 in the Hatigaon area. He was staying at a rented apartment at Bhagaduttapur and is a native of Nalbari. On June 10, the Hatigaon police took him to the GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital) for swab test and later he was presented before the court. The court sent the accused to Tezpur Central Jail. His swab results came out on Friday and he was tested positive.

Reports say that various personnel of Hatigaon PS came in contact with the accused, thus tension has prevailed among the personnel of the PS. Meanwhile, an SI from Panbazar PS has been tested positive. He was quarantined at a hotel in the city since last five days and the results came positive on Friday evening.
