Health Minister Keshab Mahanta inspects AIIMS, Changsari construction site

State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta visited the construction site of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Guwahati’s Changsari area

GUWAHATI: State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta visited the construction site of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Guwahati’s Changsari area on Tuesday. He was accompanied by the Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr Anup Barman and high-level officials of the State Health Department.

The minister inspected the construction site and the preparations in the inauguration site. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the hospital on April 14. During the inspection, SDO (Civil) Rangia, Dipen Barman and senior officials of AIIMS, Changsari were also present. Talking to media persons after the inspection, minister Keshab Mahanta said, “On April 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will come to AIIMS, Changsari from the LGBI Airport, Borjhar. He will inaugurate this medical institution and also virtually the three new medical colleges at Nagaon, Kokrajhar and Nalbari. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the Assam Advanced Health Innovation Institute which is a joint venture of IIT Guwahati and the Assam Government.”

AIIMS Changsari has been constructed at a total cost of Rs 1,123 crore by the Central Government. Almost 85% construction of the medical institution has been completed. At present, classes for MBBS course are going on at AIIMS, Changsari. It will have 100 MBBS seats and 750 beds. It will have an OPD for providing services under AYUSH.
