GUWAHATI: Every citizen of Assam is now eagerly waiting for the final list of NRC that is to be published on 31st August. However, the Hindu Jagaran Manch (HJM) on Saturday claimed that the people of Assam are going to get another IM(DT) like legislation. The Manch further said that Pratik Hajela is an autocrat, as he is conspiring against the Assamese people by providing the license of citizenship to Bangladeshis.
The Manch also questioned Pratik Hajela and the Supreme Court’s negligence towards the Register General of India, the body responsible for the whole procedure. President of Hindu Jagaran Manch Mrinal Kumar Laskar said, “For what reason the expenses of Rs 1,400 crore funded by the Central Government for National Register of Citizens update are still not submitted to the CAG”. He asked for an audit of the money by the CAG and sought for 100% verification of NRC instead of 27%. The body claimed that the demands of the public have been totally ignored by the NRC authority and the people of Assam are not at all satisfied with the procedure. The body added they have witnessed people who don’t even know the name of their neighbour and how to speak Assamese. Apparently a woman from Bamunimaidam who has all the necessary data, including the legacy data and marriage certificate, has not been included the draft NRC. This is just an example. There are lots of other such cases, where indigenous people’s names are missing in the draft NRC. On the other hand, names of suspected people have figured in the draft NRC.”
Manch president Mrinal Kumar Laskar and general secretary Ranjit Chandra Kalita appealed to the State and the Central governments to not do such injustice; and said that the people of Assam will wait for some more time, if necessary, for the publication of the final NRC. “We’ll never accept any erroneous citizens’ list. All we need is a proper list without a single illegal immigrant in it,” Laskar said, and added: “If such an erroneous NRC is imposed on the people of Assam through an eyewash like re-verification, we’ll move the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) with a complaint.”
