"I was lucky to have worked under Tarun Gogoi," says Himanta Biswa Sarma

Sarma said that Gogoi had rescued Assam from the darkest period and led the government for 15 long years ensuring a new phase of development

Guwahati: Assam Finance, Health, Education and PWD Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he feels lucky to have got the opportunity to work under the Former Assam Chief Minister and Congress leader, Late Tarun Gogoi.

Sarma took to Twitter and wrote, Gogoi was a man with a great grand vision & extraordinary passion, he was an intensely people's man. Gogoi always focused on progress & enjoyed the support of all. He feels lucky to have worked under Gogoi.

He further said that Gogoi had rescued Assam from the darkest period and led the government for 15 long years ensuring a new phase of development.

Sarma wrote in his tweet," A man of grand vision & extraordinary passion, Sri Tarun Gogoi was an intensely people's man, focused on progress & enjoyed the support of all. I was lucky to have worked under him. He rescued Assam from a period of darkness & led it for 15 yrs ensuring a new phase of development."

Sarma had served as the Finance, Planning, Health, PWD, Agriculture minister in late Gogoi's cabinet from 2001-11.

Gogoi is known to be Sarma the finance minister's mentor and Sarma, who is also the health minister now did all that he could to ensure that the late veteran leader of Assam got the best of treatment during his illness since August.

The late leader had tested positive for COVID in August but had tested negative and out of the hospital by October. After that, he had been in and out of the hospital due to other complications.

The leader passed away on Monday at 5.34 pm at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
