GUWAHATI: IAS officer Prateek Hajela will be returning to Assam shortly. He will join the Assam-Meghalaya cadre.

After the publication of the NRC (National Register of Citizens) in 2019, under the direction of the Supreme Court of India, Hajela was sent on an inter-state deputation to Madhya Pradesh. Now his three-year term of interstate deputation has expired. A notification issued by the General Administration Department of the Madhya Pradesh Government on March 29, 2023, relieved him with effect from March 31, 2023, to let him rejoin his original Assam-Meghalaya cadre.

Hajela is a 1995-batch IAS officer who served as the Principal Secretary of the Department of Ayush and CEO of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Good Governance and Policy Analysis in the Government of Madhya Pradesh. While in Assam, he was the State Coordinator of the NRC.

When contacted, the Personnel Department of the Assam Government said that Hajela is yet to report to the State Government for his joining.
