ICAI organizes virtual-outreach programme on financial and tax literacy among masses

GUWAHATI : In line with the Government of India's national mission on 'Vitiya Saksharta', the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) launched a Financial & Tax Literacy Drive — Vitiya Gyan-ICAI Ka Abhiyaan'.

It is a means to propagate and promote financial and tax literacy nationwide amongst various strata of public including housewives, senior citizens, students, salaried /retired persons, start-ups/ businessmen and entrepreneurs, law enforcement personnel, Defence personnel, teachers and academicians, farmers and rural households, professionals such as lawyers, doctors, and engineers among others. This drive includes creating awareness through the knowledge-hub seminars and lectures, articles and activities, booklets and video guides in vernacular languages to address the common man's needs on finance and tax related matters.

On October 9, 2021, a meet on 'Vitiya Gyan- ICAI Ka Abhiyan' was organised. Addressing the members, Branch Chairman CA Kamal Mour said that "Vitiya Gyan – ICAI Ka Abhiyaan" is the biggest drive across the nation by ICAI. This drive will not only educate the masses about the basics of finance and tax but also enhance the brand value of the profession of Chartered Accountants.

A multilingual website (presently in nine languages viz., English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam) — www.vitiyagyan.icai.org — which is a one-stop destination for information and learning assets was launched on July 1, 2021. The digital learning assets (articles, PPTs, video guides, Interactive learning games etc.) available on this website may be referred to while conducting the knowledge-dissemination activities.

Expert speakers, Ram Shah from Guwahati meticulously deliberated on the topic – 'Literacy on Mutual Funds & Insurance'. The session was attended by a good number of members. It was followed by a question-and-answer session to address the queries and issues raised by the participants.
