IEE programme for small tea growers of Assam

GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) Guwahati, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India in collaboration with Tea Board of India, NE Zonal office, is conducting a series of entrepreneurship development programme (EDP) for small tea growers of Assam under the Tribal Area Sub-Plan (TASP) scheme in its campus, stated a press release.

Seventy-five small tea growers are participating in the programme.

The EDP, which began on January 31 last, will cover a wide range of topics from entrepreneurial motivation, farm and business, systematic approach on enterprise planning, launching, growth, expansion and product diversification, legal formalities for setting up of enterprises, quality standards, branding and packaging of products, institutional support system, financial management, support schemes, incentives and subsidies for tea enterprises, opportunity identification and idea assessment, marketing appraisal and demand forecasting, along with legal aspects for domestic as well as export marketing. These small tea growers have already received technical and financial support from the Tea Board.

On the other hand, in accordance with the National Skill Mission to empower the youth with skill sets and entrepreneurial zeal to make them more employable and more productive in their work environment, the IIE imparted Trainers' Training Programme on Employability, Entrepreneurship and Life Skills for the NSDC training partners of North-Eastern Region. A total of 25 participants received the training.

IIE is also implementing a Pilot Project on Entrepreneurship Development in the holy cities of Puri, Bodh Gaya and Kollur, sponsored by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The objective of the project is to promote micro and small businesses in the holy cities through mentoring and hand-holding support to new and existing entrepreneurs. With the objective of facilitating credit linkage of some entrepreneurs in Puri, IIE had organized a Bankers' Meet on February 2. Representatives from the Bank of Baroda, Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, Jana Small Finance Bank and Utkarsh Small Finance Bank attended the meeting chaired by Dr Lalit Sharma, Director of IIE. The banking officials expressed interest to facilitate credit linkages routing through their respective regional offices. All these projects are headed by Prasanta Goswami, Senior Faculty of IIE.
