GUWAHATI: "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to protect the citizens of the country and the government is scared to answer and take action against China," said Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora on Monday regarding the tension between India and China.

Addressing a press meet here at Rajiv Bhawan, Bora slammed the Centre by stating that the government has not responded well to attack of the Chinese Army against the Indian troops.

He said PM Modi has humiliated the 20 martyred soldiers by stating that no one has intruded the Indian Territory.

He noted that there is a contradiction in what PM Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had said regarding the Indian China tension.

Further, Bora questioned why Assam has not been included in the Garib Kalyan Rozgar Scheme. The Rs 50,000-crore scheme aims to tackle the impact of COVID-19 on migrant workers, covers six States.

The leader questioned the government on the inclusion of Jharkhand under the scheme. He said, "Economy of Assam and Jharkhand is very similar. We would like to know why did the government take Jharkhand under the scheme but not Assam?"

He claimed that both Assam Chief Minister and Finance Minister could not pressurize the Centre to include Assam under the scheme.

Further, Bora alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is using COVID-19 as a weapon to fulfill its political revenge.

Questioning the Centre and State government, he said, Gaurav Gogoi and Ajay Maken were quarantined in Manipur but, "Why weren't Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and other BJP MPs when they visited Assam?"

The amount for tollgates has increased, however, there are hardly any financial resources for the development of the state, said APCC president, and added, "Why hasn't CM Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma demanded allocation of financial resources?"

The APPC also demanded a white paper from the State BJP clarifying all the economic expenses of the State.
