Indian Army organizes seminar on India-Bangladesh relationship

To commemorate 50 years of liberation of Bangladesh with victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations are being undertaken throughout the country.

GUWAHATI: To commemorate 50 years of liberation of Bangladesh with victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations are being undertaken throughout the country.

To mark the occasion, a seminar with distinguished speakers from Bangladesh and India was organized on the theme 'Bangladesh and NE India: Into the Rising Sun' at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara here on Tuesday. The seminar was organized under aegis of Eastern Command and Gajraj Corps.

"Northeast is like a rising sun for both India and Bangladesh because this is the gateway to connect Southeast Asian nations where there are immense opportunities in various fields," said Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Defence, while addressing the Swarnim Vijay Varsh seminar.

He further said that there were positive changes in the relationship between India-Bangladesh starting from economic, agriculture, business, water connectivity and the credit went to the people of both the countries. He asserted that both the countries were focusing on development and progress through mutual cooperation.

The seminar was conducted over two sessions and the talks ranged from topics on economy, culture, water sharing, maritime, security and regional prosperity. Wasbir Hussain, Guwahati-based senior journalist and security analyst, and professor Nani Gopal Mahanta, Academic Advisor to the Education Department, Government of Assam, chaired the sessions.

The Swarnim Vijay Varsh seminar was an apt platform for the speakers and participants to explore and exchange ideas and views on the topics relevant to the theme for better understanding and coordination between the two nations in order to boost the relationship by focusing on people-to-people and government-to-government connect, stated an Army press release.
