GUWAHATI: Of late Indian Railway has taken many innovative measures to attract new customers and to make transportation through rail easier. This has resulted into increase in freight loading and transportation in comparison to last year during this period in spite of COVID related economic slowdown and restrictions.

On railways part, it has been monitoring movements of all freight trains to ensure punctual running and improving facilities and infrastructure at all goods sheds. This has resulted improved loading and unloading. The average running speed of goods train also doubled due to continuous monitoring and various steps taken to remove speed restrictions. The Business Development Units formed in all divisions are in constant touch with traders of their respective jurisdiction to sort out problems if any related to transportation.

Indian Railways has also provided various intensives/ concessions for the benefit of traders/merchants. Some of them are follows:

  1. Busy Season Surcharge (@15%) withdrawn from 1st October 2019
  2. Long-Lead Concession of 15% to 20% granted to coal, iron-ore, and finished steel
  3. Short-Lead Concession of 10% to 50% granted to all traffic, except coal and iron-ore
  4. Terminal Access Charge Concession (50%) granted at Group-III terminals
  5. Container and Automobile traffic exempted from payment of Stabling Charges till 31st October
  6. 5% and 25% discount on Haulage Charges to loaded and empty Containers respectively
  7. Concession to bulk/loose fly-ash and industrial salt, a press release said.
