GUWAHATI:  To facilitate passengers during the festive season, Indian Railways has been operating special trains across the country. This aims to address the surge in passenger demand due to Diwali and Chhath Puja, ensuring a smoother travel experience for passengers. The special trains are running as per the scheduled time and reaching their destination without losing punctuality.

Approximately 26 lakh extra berths are being provided by operating the festival trains in addition to the regular trains. 24 pairs of festive special trains are being operated by N.F. Railway to cope with the waiting lists of regular trains connecting major destinations. Special trains are running from Kolkata to Sealdah, connecting places like Guwahati, Agartala, and New Jalpaiguri. Similarly, special trains are being operated from New Delhi and Anand Vihar to places like Purnea and Katihar. Some of the special trains include Katihar-Ranchi; Agartala-Securunderabad; Kamakhya-Gorakhpur, etc. Utmost care is being taken to run these festival special trains as per their scheduled timings to enable passengers to reach their destination as planned. Among the festive special trains, the Silchar-Kolkata festive special train departed as per its schedule time at 05:00 hours on November 9. The train reached its destination, Kolkata, 21 minutes before its arrival time. Another train from Katihar to Manihari departed from Katihar as per its schedule time, i.e., 20:30 hours of November 10, to reach its destination, Manihari, 30 minutes before its arrival time, i.e., 21:30 hours.
