GUWAHATI: The Indian Tea Association (ITA) is deeply concerned by the disturbing reports in the press and media alleging the use of artificial colours in some of the packaged teas. The member producers of the Indian Tea Association are committed to sustaining the highest quality standards and are compliant with the laid-down norms and regulations of the Food Safety Standards of India and the Tea Board. Stringent standards set by certifying agencies are followed by tea producers to ensure that the teas are ethically produced and safe for human consumption, both domestically and overseas.

The Indian Tea Association strongly feels that such reports lead to destabilising the market with an overarching adverse impact on prices and keeping them depressed. While the producers spare no efforts to ensure that the produce is ethical, sustainable, and safe for consumption, the regulatory authorities such as the FSSAI and Tea Board are also equally vigilant. Hence, any possible act by unscrupulous elements in the trade should not be cast upon the entire industry to defame it. The reported allegations have been refuted, stated a press release.
