GUWAHATI: "An inquiry will be initiated against the teachers who have not yet updated their profiles in the Shiksha Setu Portal." This was announced by the Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, in a meeting with the officers of the Education Department. The Education Minister said that in the case of the Shiksha Setu Portal, the process of updating the teachers’ profiles will have to be completed within a short period of time. All the districts are requested to gear up the updating of teacher profiles in the Shiksha Setu Portal so that the process can be completed immediately.

Further, the minister said, "An inquiry will have to be initiated against the teachers who do not update their profile in the Shiksha Setu Portal to confirm whether they are presently working in the school or not. Till the report of the inquiry comes out, the salary of the teachers concerned will have to be kept withheld."

The meeting came to the decision that there will be a provision in the Shiksha Setu Portal for teachers who are attached to any other school in the interest of the public. There will be a provision in the Shiksha Setu Portal to erase the list of already closed schools. As many border area school teachers have bank accounts in the banks of Meghalaya, the matter of linking the bank names of Meghalaya in the Shiksha Setu Portal will be explored. The district and block officers are to closely monitor the proper utilization of the tablets given to the schools and take action immediately when any tablet is found missing.

The Education Minister said that the school profile in the Shiksha Setu Portal will have to be verified by the respective Cluster Resource Centre Coordinators (CRCCs). The CRCCs will approve the school profile if they find all the information about the school correct. In the event that he or she finds the information to be incorrect or incomplete, he or she will submit the return button and return the profile for further necessary action.

Also to be mentioned, many primary schools in the state under the Assam State Primary Teachers Association (ASPTA) have already returned the tablets that were given to them by the State Education Department for the implementation of the Shiksha Setu Programme to their respective Block Elementary Education Officers (BEEOs). They returned the tablets as per the demands made by the ASPTA for not creating the posts of headmasters in the primary schools. However, many BEEOs declined to accept those tablets, as there were no prior orders for them to take them.
