GUWAHATI: Installation of idols, puja, and ululations marked the Shashti of the Durga Puja on Saturday. The Mahasaptami is on Sunday.
The day witnessed devotees thronging puja pandals in hordes since morning. Puja pandals at Maligaon, Pandu, Beltola, Latasil, Chandmari, Ganeshguri, Ganesh Mandir, Geetanagar, Narengi, Lokhara etc., witnessed gatherings of people. On the outskirts of Guwahati, the puja pandal at Azara was busy with the hustle-bustle of devotees.
An undercurrent of competition is glaringly visible among the puja pandals on decoration and thematic depiction. Creativity is also prominent in some pandals in getting valuable messages about environmental protection and social issues across.
The traffic branch of the police in Guwahati has announced the arrangement of vehicular traffic in Guwahati. Yet, traffic snarl is one of the most troublesome problems in Guwahati, especially during the Durga Puja.
