Interactive Session On Suicide Prevention

GUWAHATI: Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) organized a special interactive session on suicide prevention and other related aspects at the State Institute of Health & Family Welfare auditorium at Khanapara on Friday.

Dr Chinu Agrawal, an internationally accredited Psychologist & Psychotherapist, presided over the session as the guest speaker. September 10 is the World Suicide Prevention Day. Dr Chinu Agrawal, during her address and interaction with the participants, highlighted the NCCB data that 1,64,000 deaths happened by suicide in 2021. It is at par with accidental deaths.

The theme of this World Suicide Prevention Day is 'Creating Hope through Action. Dr Agrawal pitched that suicide is not the only option available to the difficulties of life. "The theme attempts to instil hope and brightness in all by serving as a reminder that there are alternatives to suicide," she said. Dr Agrawal said, "Through our actions, we may show that battling depression that there is hope and that we care about them and want to help them. Positive hopes and actions can lead to a day when a world can be envisioned where suicides are not so prevalent."
