GUWAHATI: An Ultrasonic Diagnostic Imaging Unit was inaugurated jointly by the Executive Director and State Head, Indian Oil AOD State Office G Ramesh and the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Dr BN Saikia recently at the Veterinary College campus, Khanapara, stated a press release.

The college was established way back in 1948 and has been serving the people of the State through its various animal healthcare programmes and is also the referral centre for all the NE states for any complicated cases. The college lacks many modern diagnostic equipments, including the commonly used ultra-sonography machine, which hampers proper diagnosis of the clinical cases in animals.

Considering the gap, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has funded an Ultrasonography machine to the college with inbuilt facilities for Colour Doppler imaging, echocardiography, elastography etc. This diagnostic tool will help in early disease diagnosis of various animal organs and will thus help in taking preventive action during treatment. Besides, this machine will be useful for non-invasive biopsy procedures and therapeutic procedures also.

This step from Indian Oil (IOCL) towards the welfare of the animals was highly appreciated by the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences in the meeting held after the inaugural function. The machine was formally handed over to the College of Veterinary Sciences for regular use.
