The indigenous Muslim leaders also asked that the Census should be conducted under the Revenue Department with the help of Home Department and indigenous Muslim organizations; however, the minister said that he will discuss the issue with the Chief Minister. Speaking further, Aowal said the leaders’ stated to Ranjit Dutta that people of Syed community should be considered as a “Goria” and similarly “Ujani” people should be considered as “Deshi”. He also appealed to the people of the indigenous communities to add their representative group’s name after their title. “Goria, Moria, Deshi, Jola etc belong to the Brahamaputra Valley. In Barak Valley, there are indigenous Muslims like Kachari, Kiran, Mymal and Pangal. Thus, a Census should be conducted for these people too.
